My Chiropractic Story: I was 24 years old and confined to my bed with the worst lower back pain I had ever experienced in my entire life. Two weeks earlier I suffered a terrible weightlifting injury. I went to the sports medicine clinic and received prescriptions for muscle relaxers and pain killers, as well as advice never to lift heavy weights again. I literally felt helpless and hopeless.

Then an angel entered my life. She suggested I see a chiropractor. At that point I would have tried anything. I went in to Dr. Fred’s office. He evaluated me, identified the cause of my pain, and explained how we would fix it. Then I received my first chiropractic adjustment. WOW! For the first time in two weeks I stood up and walked normally. A week later I was back in the gym for light activity. A few months later I noticed I was actually lifting heavier than ever, sleeping more soundly, and had an abundance of energy.

Chiropractic didn’t just relieve my pain. It gave me life back. I was actually experiencing a whole new level of vitality. And when I discovered that my pre-med background was one of the prerequisites for the Doctor of Chiropractic program, I immediately enrolled. Now I have the privilege of helping others achieve their fullest potential in life!

Oh, and that angel that told me about chiropractic… I married her! We are partners in life and business!!

My Chiropractic Story:
Growing up, I loved to run errands with my dad on Saturday mornings. He went to the usual places; the bank, the gas station, car wash, fleet farm and then he always ended up at the chiropractor’s office because being a UPS driver, Saturdays were the only time he could go and he needed to go because he was a UPS driver. He had low back problems for as long as I can remember. I always thought it was fun to lie on the table and get adjusted just like my dad. Growing up in sports, I continued to see the chiropractor to help my performance.
One day in 7th grade, I went sledding with a friend. We decided to go double, ended up hitting a bump spinning us full speed ahead toward a telephone pole. She realized it at the last second and jumped off, but it was too late for me. I wrapped my arms around my head and I slammed back first into the telephone pole. I lay there for 30 minutes in excruciating pain and I couldn’t move. My parents didn’t take me to the ER that night, but they took me to the chiropractor. Even though it took months to recover and still got sharp pains up to 4 years later, I have made a full recovery and I thank God my parents took me down the chiropractic road instead of the medical road. From then on, I knew I wanted to be a chiropractor and I have never looked back.

My Chiropractic Story: Since a young age, I knew that I wanted to do something that was health-related, as that is of great importance to me. One of the assignments in our Introduction to Health class was to pick a health-related profession, that you did not know much about, and research it. I did not know a lot about chiropractic at the time, and was intrigued, so I decided to choose that. I am so glad that I choose chiropractic, as I would not be doing what I do today if this assignment was not given to me. Chiropractic makes complete sense to me, but at that point, I had never received an adjustment, or even met a chiropractor. So, to make sure that I experienced chiropractic, I decided to search the area and go work for a chiropractor near school. Not only did I see the difference that it made in our patients that came through the office, but also noticed better performance in myself as an athlete. At that time, I was training for a marathon and was having issues with my knees and hips. After getting adjusted regularly, I noticed a difference in my stride and ease of running in general. Now, I can’t imagine training for any race or event without chiropractic.

Also, when I was pregnant with my girls, chiropractic helped me achieve a comfortable and active pregnancy as well as a natural delivery at home without drugs. Without chiropractic, I know that my pregnancy would have been uncomfortable and the process of labor would have been more challenging. I am a huge advocate of chiropractic before, during, and after pregnancy for both mom and baby, as I want all my pregnant patients to enjoy their pregnancy and achieve their birth plan.

My Chiropractic Story: When I was 8 years old I was still wetting the bed so my Mom brought me to a chiropractor and my bed wetting stopped over the course of my adjustments. We stopped going after about a year and when I was 12 yrs old I started getting really severe migraines. They were so bad that that year I missed 32 days of school, when normally I rarely missed any school. Again my Mom brought me into the same chiropractor, my migraines went away and I’ve been getting adjusted ever since. See, my chiropractor never educated me or my family on how the body works and why it’s so important to have your spine checked even when you ‘symptoms’ go away. That’s why at ELC we take time to teach our members how the body works and why your spine and nervous system are so important. Chiropractic helps your body function at 100% and I believe in that concept so much that I share it with my family and friends. In fact I was the one who introduced Dr. Tony to chiropractic before we were even dating. And he adjusted our son, Noah, at birth!

My Chiropractic Story:

I have seen a few chiropractors over my adult life. In 2005 I was in a car accident. I saw a chiropractor for it but I didn’t have the greatest experience and the pain persisted. I lost my hopes for ever functioning normal again.

Later, in the end of 2014 my husband was in a really bad car accident. He started seeing Dr. Tony and had the results we all hoped for. He felt better than he did before the car accident!

Next, my youngest son was diagnosed with a quick onset of scoliosis. He was given 3 appointments over 9 months. If by the 9th month, he had 5% more of a bend in his spine he would be in a brace from the middle of his neck to the lower end of his tailbone for 22 hours a day until he was done growing. By the 2nd visit he already had over a 3% of a bend in his spine. We decided to give Dr. Tony a try to see if he could help our son. We needed to be able to say that we have tried everything that we could. Nervously, after 3 months of chiropractic care with Dr. Tony we had to go back to the other doctor for our 3rd visit. He took the x-rays and came back in and asked my son what his secret was? His spine didn’t curve any farther, it actually was back to the curve of the first visit!!!

So finally it was my turn to let Dr. Tony give it a try to see if he could help me. Since my car accident in 2005 I was unable to look up, or turn my head to my right/left. It was very painful and would give me headaches that would last days and build to migraines. After one month with Dr. Tony I had full range of movement back in my neck and no more life impacting headaches or migraines.

My Chiropractic Story: I don’t have an out there, over the top interesting story. Before working here, I never really thought I needed chiropractic care. I was a dancer when I was a little kid, but after that never participated in any sports. I’ve never broken a bone in my body, and if I have come close it’s been the smallest thing like my pinky. (Long story ha!) So my body felt perfectly fine to me. My older sister had been to the chiropractor in town a few times to get her short-time scoliosis looked at, but that was about it. After getting a job here, I decided it was time to probably get my body looked at. Once I got my scans back, I realized 22 years of not seeing a chiropractor once, was probably not the best idea. I’ve learned so much in the short time that I’ve worked here, and it’s truly an experience to be a part of the team and contribute to all the things they do for the community.

Favorite Food: Tacos of course!!! As well as any Thai or Cajun Dishes, Chocolate Lava cake and fresh fruit!!!!

Favorite Activities: I enjoy spending most of my time with my family and friends. I have a 10 year old son Keegan who plays hockey and baseball I spend most of my free time at his sporting events and school activities. I also love to travel and try new things. Napa has been one of my favorite places to visit.

My Chiropractic Story: When my son was born he was very colicky and was put on medication at about only 5 weeks old. After putting him on the medication he started showing signs of improvement, only to be let down when the symptoms started to come back. A friend of mine had recommended chiropractic care for him and it was life changing. He was a completely different baby after he received chiropractic care. I could finally see that my baby was feeling better. When he got a little older he got a concussion in hockey and was getting headaches. We then started getting him adjusted again and the headaches went away. That is when we realized it was best to keep him on a wellness plan.

A few years later I was stopped at a red light and was rear ended. All I remember was the pain that I had in my neck and back. I had two MRI’s showing multiple bulging and herniated discs.  Shortly after I started chiropractic care and was going 3 times a week. I could already feel results into my 2nd week. I could turn my neck without any sort of pain. Ever since then myself and my son have been getting adjusted on a regular basis. It has significantly changed both of our lives and I feel that a healthy spine leads to a health life.

My Chiropractic Story: I don’t have a “typical” chiropractic story. I never had any specific symptom that I was searching to get fixed.  I am a former gymnast of 12 years so I had some aches and pains and stress when I was younger, but nothing that I thought I could change. One day my sister woke up and couldn’t turn her neck to one side so my mother thought maybe a chiropractor could help. She went on the internet and found that Essentials of Life was the closest location.  She got checked and Dr. Tony helped her with her neck issue.  He invited my whole family to a Welcome Workshop, and that is when I realized that Essentials of Life isn’t just any ordinary chiropractor.  Dr. Tony opened my eyes and informed me that chiropractic isn’t just about healing symptoms, but its about making sure the body is functioning properly.  The rest of my family ended up getting checked and seen regularly by Dr. Tony.  I noticed a huge difference in my stress levels and the decrease in aches and pains I was having at such a young age.  I never thought a chiropractor could do anything to help those things but it did!  I have been going to ELC for several years now and I ended up working here! I have learned so many new things about health and have got to experience a lot of things that most teenagers don’t get to experience.  It is such an honor to be able to help others go down the road to wellness and see a positive impact being made within the community!!!

My Chiropractic Story: I did not originally find chiropractic for myself, instead, I found it trying to help my husband who’d experienced years of intense lower back pain. After surgeries and other (unsuccessful) attempts at getting relief from pain, we decided to give it one last shot and were referred to Dr. Tony. After two visits my husband, for the first time in years, found relief from his non stop battle with chronic pain. He became more like the person I remembered before the back pain settled in, and after sticking to a wellness program, he was able to regain his active lifestyles and was once again the happy, go lucky man I had fallen in love with.

After a few failed attempts, my husband eventually talked me into getting a free scan with Dr. Tony. I’d didn’t feel that I needed one , but I went because he was so persistent. After my first scan and visit, they shared that my left leg was significantly longer than my right leg. I realized then that I had grown SO accustomed to this pain, and the limitations from having it, that I didn’t even think about it anymore. I fully expected I’d have the same left hip surgery as others in my family, and that I could no longer enjoy doing some of the things I’d given up over the past few years like running and working out. After getting on a wellness plan with Essentials of life, my hip pain began to go away, and I started working out again for the first time (without pain) in a long time! I’d been used to starting an activity, and then stopping it when the pain became too unbearable. Now, I am using the treadmill every day, working out regularly, and enjoying chasing after my adorable two little boys without pain. I am even considering making some new running goals that I’d given up because of the pain I’d experienced being too challenging to push through.

I am so thankful to have found the benefits of Chiropractic at a young age, and I’m thankful that I don’t have to expect to have the same hip surgeries as my family members. Instead, I can utilize the gift of Chiropractic to help regain health and wellness not just in my alignment, but, in all of the important aspects of my life.
